• Properties of the SOBW Bronze Sliding Washer:

SANKYO maintenance-free sliding bearings are manufactured from very hard bronze (base material) and contain specially positioned solid lubricant (graphite) inserts. The graphite is arranged to match the direction of movement. The bronze carries the load, while the solid lubricant provides lubrication throughout the entire service life of the bearing.

The graphite inserts must be able to lubricate the bronze sliding surface. During bearing movement, a thin graphite film (measured in microns) is transferred onto the bronze surface. This means that clearance between the sliding surfaces is always required for the bronze and graphite system to operate efficiently.

Maximum recommended operating temperature: 300°C (the bearings are manufactured at approximately 1000°C).

For operating temperatures above 100°C, additional clearance should be provided to compensate for thermal expansion.

Maintenance normally consists of checking wear every 6 months to 2 years, depending on operating time and load. It is recommended to re-lubricate the parts after each disassembly. Do not remove the existing solid lubricant layer. Continuous grease injection is not required because the components are maintenance-free when all application requirements for graphite-filled bronze are observed.

Machining

SANKYO bronze is easy to machine. In general, machining is very similar to machining standard steel. No special tools are required, although sharp, preferably new cutting tools are recommended.

When using HSS or carbide tools, cooling lubricants are recommended. During rough milling, leave approximately 0.3mm machining allowance, as with standard steel. During rough milling, use a low feed rate and shallow cutting depth.
