• Properties of the SOBW 60 Bronze Washer:

Maintenance-free SANKYO plain bearings are manufactured from very hard bronze (base material) and contain specially positioned solid lubricant inserts (graphite). The graphite is arranged to match the direction of movement. The base material carries the load, while the solid lubricant provides lubrication throughout the service life of the bearing.

The graphite elements must be able to lubricate the bronze sliding surface. During bearing rotation, a thin film (microns) of graphite spreads over the bronze surface. This means that clearance between the two sliding surfaces is always required for bronze with graphite to operate effectively.

Maximum recommended operating temperature: 300°C (bearings are manufactured at 1000°C).

At operating temperatures above 100°C, greater clearance must be provided to compensate for thermal expansion.

Required maintenance usually consists of checking wear every 6 months to 2 years, depending on operating time and load. Re-lubrication of parts is recommended whenever the assembly is dismantled. Do not remove the existing solid lubricant layer. Continuous grease injection is not required, as the parts are maintenance-free when all requirements for the use of bronze with solid lubricant are observed.

• Machining 

SANKYO bronze is easy to machine. In general, there is little difference between machining our products and ordinary steel. No special tools are required, but always use sharp and preferably new tools.

For HSS or carbide tools, the use of cooling lubricants is recommended. During rough milling, leave approximately 0.3 mm as with ordinary steel. During rough milling operations, use a low feed rate and a small cutting depth.
