Properties

SANKYO maintenance-free sliding bearings are manufactured from very hard bronze (base material) and contain specially arranged solid lubricant inserts (graphite). The graphite is positioned to correspond to the direction of movement. The base material carries the load, while the solid lubricant provides lubrication throughout the service life of the bearing.

The graphite inserts must be able to lubricate the bronze sliding surface. During bearing movement, a thin graphite film (microns) spreads over the bronze. This means that clearance between the two sliding surfaces is always required for bronze with graphite to operate effectively.

Maximum recommended operating temperature: 300°C (bearings are manufactured at 1000°C).

At operating temperatures above 100°C, additional clearance should be provided to compensate for thermal expansion.

Maintenance usually consists of checking wear every 6 months to 2 years, depending on operating time and load. Re-lubrication is recommended whenever the parts are disassembled. Do not remove the existing solid lubricant layer. Continuous grease injection is not required because the parts are maintenance-free, provided that all application requirements for bronze with solid lubricant are met.

Machining

SANKYO bronze is easy to machine. In general, there is little difference between machining our products and machining standard steel. No special tools are required, but sharp, preferably new tools should be used.

When using HSS or carbide tools, the use of cooling lubricants is recommended. During rough milling, machine approximately 0.3 mm, as with ordinary steel. During milling and rough milling, use a low feed rate and a shallow cutting depth.
