316L is a very popular austenitic stainless steel with excellent corrosion resistance. It offers outstanding welding and forming properties. Originally developed for the paper industry, it proved highly resistant to sulphur compounds used in paper processing. Due to its excellent corrosion resistance, 316L is now one of the most widely used stainless steels for demanding industrial applications. It is considered superior to 304 / 304L stainless steel.

Among the main advantages of 316L are its non-magnetic properties, excellent ductility, high impact strength, outstanding weldability, good mechanical strength and wide operating temperature range.
