Maintenance-free SANKYO sleeve bearings – Flanged Sleeve Bearing SOBF 100x120x100 SANKYO – are manufactured from very hard bronze (base material) with specially positioned solid graphite lubricant inserts. The graphite inserts are arranged according to the direction of movement. The bronze carries the load while the solid lubricant provides lubrication throughout the entire service life of the bearing.

The graphite inserts continuously lubricate the bronze sliding surface. During operation, a thin graphite film (measured in microns) is transferred onto the bronze surface. For this reason, sufficient clearance between the sliding surfaces must always be maintained to ensure efficient operation.

Maximum recommended operating temperature: 300°C (the bearings are manufactured at approximately 1000°C).

For operating temperatures above 100°C, additional clearance should be provided to compensate for thermal expansion.

Maintenance normally consists of checking wear every 6 months to 2 years, depending on operating time and load. Re-lubrication is recommended whenever the component is disassembled. Do not remove the existing solid lubricant layer. Continuous grease lubrication is not required, as the bearing is maintenance-free when installed correctly.

Machining

SANKYO bronze is easy to machine. Machining characteristics are very similar to standard steel. No special tools are required; however, sharp, preferably new cutting tools are recommended.

When using HSS or carbide tools, cooling lubricants are recommended.

During rough milling, leave approximately 0.3mm machining allowance, as with ordinary steel. During rough machining, use a low feed rate and shallow cutting depth.
