Grade 316 is a very popular austenitic stainless steel with high corrosion resistance. It has excellent welding and forming properties. The steel was originally developed for the paper industry because it was found to be highly resistant to sulfur compounds used in paper processing. Due to its corrosion-resistant properties, 316 stainless steel is one of the most commonly used grades in the corrosion-resistant steel group. It is a higher grade than 304 / 304L.

The advantages of this steel grade include its non-magnetic properties, excellent ductility, impact strength, excellent weldability, good strength and suitability for operation over a wide temperature range.
