Metal-rubber washers, are used for sealing threaded connections. They are designed to seal both metric and imperial threads.

What is a Metal-Rubber Washer Made Of?

A MET-GUM washer consists of two rings: an outer metal ring, usually made of galvanized carbon steel, which is resistant to corrosion, and an inner ring typically made of NBR rubber.

NBR rubber is oil-resistant and commonly used in the automotive industry. It is resistant to oils, greases, and hydraulic fluids, and performs well in environments where substances like propane, butane, and alcohols are used.

Advantages of Metal-Rubber Seals?

The washers are self-centering, meaning the rubber surface tightly adheres to the thread, sealing it. Each MET-GUM washer is sized to fit the thread it is intended for.

These washers are commonly used in connectors for hydraulic systems. They are frequently found in industrial installations, automotive applications, construction machinery, and agricultural machinery.

 

How to Replace a MET-GUM Washer?

To replace a properly selected MET-GUM washer, place it onto the thread and press it firmly until it reaches the end of the thread. Some connectors have a special recess for using metal-rubber washers.

Replacing metal-rubber seals is very easy, as they don’t stick to the material they were attached to. Simply pull the washer out of the thread (or give it a pull). Clean the connector surface and place a new washer.
