Graphite Self-Lubricating Bushing
A graphite self-lubricating bushing is a maintenance-free bearing bushing as well as a guide bushing. Its main advantage is that it is self-lubricating, made from special bronze with graphite. Thanks to the use of graphite, we can reduce machine maintenance costs, and they are used in hard-to-reach places to avoid the need for re-lubrication.
Sankyo's sliding bushing – these maintenance-free sliding bearings are made from very hard bronze (base material) and specially arranged inserts of solid grease (graphite). The graphite is positioned in such a way as to align with the direction of motion. The base material carries the load, and the solid grease ensures lubrication throughout the service life of the bearing.
Graphite elements must be able to lubricate the sliding surface of the bronze. During the rotation of the bearing, a thin film of grease spreads over the bronze. This means that there must always be a gap between the two sliding surfaces for the bronze with graphite to work effectively.
At working temperatures above 100°C, a larger gap must be provided to compensate for thermal expansion.
Can graphite bronze bushings be cut or ground?
The bushings are made from bronze, with black dots being graphite. This material is easy to process. There is generally no significant difference between processing these products and regular steel. No special tools are required, but it’s important to use sharp and preferably new tools.
For HSS or carbide tools, it is recommended to use cooling lubricants. When rough milling, the machine should be at a distance of about 0.3 mm, as with regular steel. During rough milling, it is advisable to use a low feed rate and a small cutting depth.
Sankyo self-lubricating bushings are often used in places where durability and damage resistance are required. The manufacturer recommends a maximum working temperature of 300°C.
We offer a wide range of guide bushings and sliding disks. You can find the available sizes of bushings in the tables here>>
Self-lubricating bronze bushings with graphite are available in different shapes:
- SOB – straight without flange
-
SOBF – straight with flange
SOB straight self-lubricating bushing with graphite Maintenance-free SOBF bushing
-
SOBB – straight with flange, additional graphite on the flange
- SOST – guide bushing

SOSB – guide bushing
- Self-lubricating guide bushings: SINTB (straight without flange) and SINTF (with flange) – made from sintered bronze.
Sintered bronze bushings are also dedicated for use in difficult / hard-to-reach places. They come in a wide range of sizes.

- We also offer self-lubricating bushings for use in water – SOBM, which resemble the SOB bushings but instead of dark graphite, they have a blue self-sealing material. SOB bronze bushings are suitable for submerged water work.
- Self-lubricating plates or bronze flat bars with graphite are also widely used:
- Sintered bronze sliding plate SOLP
- Bronze graphite sliding plate SOML
- CBS
- UWP
We manufacture bushings according to technical drawings, as well as hand-drawn sketches – our engineers have the capability to transfer dimensioned projects into programs that support production.
- We also offer dry bushings LBM (replacement for BM bushings) – straight Sankyo and LBMF (replacement for BMF bushings) – with flange Sankyo – these elements are made from steel reinforced with PTFE (Teflon).
Self-lubricating bushings have a very long service life. They are ideal for working in tough conditions. Because they lubricate themselves, their maintenance is minimal. This allows for time savings and cost reductions. Thanks to these properties, we can also avoid unnecessary issues, especially if we forget to lubricate the bushings.
